ABOUT

ABOUT

Emma Miles

Emma is an expert Lawyer (Barrister) for sensitive types of legal matters which are based on relationships. This may be at the beginning of a relationship, when issues have began to surface, or when it has broken down entirely. These relationships are mainly in the area of family law; however, they can be in any area (employment, business, neighbours etc).

As a Barrister, a large portion of Emma’s work comes to her by way of referrals from other lawyers after negotiations have been unsuccessful. However, Emma is approved by the Law Society to take instructions directly from clients and welcomes your enquiry.

Although Emma will utilise the Court system where needed, she favours Alternative Dispute Resolution as a means to resolve disputes, particularly if there is a relationship which requires ongoing consideration (co-parenting etc). To assist with this, Emma is also a trained Mediator and Collaborative Lawyer and is regularly referred work from other lawyers for this purpose.

Emma attributes her ability to resolve the most complex of emotional disputes to her years of psychological study and mature outlook. She is able to act for clients both where they have agreed the terms of their separation, and in matters where the relationship has irrevocably broken down. Emma is one of a small number of lawyers in the Waikato who specialises mainly in Relationship Property.

Emma was born in Bristol, England. She moved to Bath, England in her teenage years where she began her journey into her legal career by studying Psychology and Law at the Bath College of Further Education. Emma then attended Bath Spa University and studied a Bachelor of Science (BSc) in Psychology before moving to New Zealand in 2000 and completing her LL.B law degree at the University of Waikato in 2011.

Emma has developed, owned and operated, multiple successful businesses over the past 30 years both in the UK and NZ.

Outside of the law, Emma enjoys spending time with friends or family, enjoying the beauty of New Zealand, or sampling New Zealand wines and her favourite Single Malt Whiskies.

Emma is happy to have a brief no obligation chat on the phone if you believe you may require her services.
